Serotonin Syndrome is a potentially life-threatening drug reaction that occurs when the body accumulates an excessive amount of serotonin, a key neurotransmitter involved in regulating mood, cognition, and various bodily functions. This condition can result from the use of certain medications, particularly those that affect serotonin levels such as antidepressants, migraine medications, and illicit drugs. Symptoms may range from mild—such as shivering and diarrhea—to severe manifestations like muscle rigidity, fever, seizures, and even death if not promptly treated.
In my exploration of Serotonin Syndrome and its profound impact on mental health, I utilize magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of my brain as a foundational element for my artistic expression. Through the intricate process of 3D animation software, I create and blend abstract representations of my neural impulses, transforming raw medical data into evocative visual art. This approach allows me to construct a deeply personal and abstract timeline of my mental health struggles, illustrating the invisible yet intense experiences within my mind.
By merging scientific imaging with creative interpretation, my work not only documents my journey through mental health challenges but also seeks to raise awareness about the complexities of neurological and psychological conditions like Serotonin Syndrome. The fusion of technology, art, and personal narrative offers a unique lens through which others can perceive the intricate relationship between brain chemistry and emotional well-being.
